INIDIVIDUAL BEGINNER LEVEL/BASIC USER (A1 &A2) “FUN ENGLISH” BOOKS #1 & #3
A1 –Conversational Course “Fun English” Book #1-English Through Drawing
10 hours
OUTCOMES: The purpose of this book is to give students an oral foundation of everyday words and to familiarize them with English sounds and simple sentences. The main focus in this book is to teach in a hands-on approach and Learn by Doing pattern. All the exercises are focused on the communicative approach and students will “play” with each other while speaking English. Although the teacher may introduce some writing by the end of the course, mainly teaching is done through visuals, magnetic boards and drawing.
A2 Book #2 – Basic Course “Fun English”Book #2 –Stories in Pictures
15 hours
OUTCOMES: Our objective in this book is to help students learn as many words as possible for their “English Language Bank”. These words are chosen from a list of the most useful words used by beginners in their first language. Words are of the highest frequency of usage and are chosen from everyday speech. Phonics rules are used to help students identify ways to pronounce unknown words and improve their spelling. This will help students associate the words with objects and events with which they are very familiar in their first language. For instance, they will learn the word “book” before they learn “dictionary”, then they will learn “encyclopedia”.So, in the Basic “Fun English” we have chosen everyday vocabulary words that are related to student’s everyday life. These words are recycled in different situations in the following lessons and will be the building blocks for future enrichment of the “Language Bank” entries. The teacher can also choose to add new vocabulary words if the words in the book do not meet the needs of the specific group of students.
A2 Book #3 – Basic Course “Fun English”Book #3 – English Structures
15 hours
OUTCOMES: The focus of “Fun English”, Book #3 will be on the language functions. This refers to the ways people use the language and gives the student a reason to use the “English Language Bank” to communicate both orally and in writing. Sometimes they may tell a story, other times they may ask for directions or give directions to others. Here are some of the examples in which students will put their knowledge about the language to good use in the target language: agree or disagree; ask or answer; accept or refuse, compare or contrast. Although “Fun English” does not ignore the advantages of the traditional method in teaching foreign languages(which may be successfully used in Book 1-2), starting with Book #3, its focus is in enabling students to use the language to communicate with people who do not speak their first language. In our shrinking, global world, English is a key to success in different fields that require international communication. To this end, this book helps in building the vocabulary and using the language to communicate to speakers of different languages in a meaningful way. It gives students a reason to use the language, not just reproduce the knowledge through rote memory.
